PLAYGROUND DESIGN!
Unveiling the winning design for the playground by Proludic following extensive community consultation and design development!
The new playground is designed for children aged under 12 years old. There is a strong inclusivity focus which means that the new playground will excite, stimulate and challenge all children including those with disabilities.
Our fundraising efforts started in July 2014, and by summer 2016 we had successfully raised our project costs of £100,000- a feat we could not have achieved with the support of our local residents, residents' associations, schools, charitable organisations and the support of our three major funders: Biffa Award, the London Marathon Charitable Trust and the Macquarie Group Foundation. Work started on building our new playground in July 2016 and the new playground is now open!
The playground makes maximum use of the existing footprint and is packed full of exciting equipment and features including a sensory garden, wheelchair accessible roundabout, basket swing, built in trampoline, infant and junior swings, climbing wall and multi-play apparatus, hip hop, balancing circuit, climbing hut, sensory play panels, springers and see saw among other things! There are also echoes of our surroundings and local heritage in the design including the River Bourne surrounded by the green belt, Kenley Aerodrome, a new Old Coulsdon Railway reflecting the strong locomotive history of Coulsdon and the central hill feature symbolising the surrounding hills and downs.
